Bayahibe is a fishing village facing the most beautiful coastal area of the Dominican Republic. Juan Brito who is the founder arrived in Cuba to stay in this area at the time a very remote part of the island. The few inhabitants lived off fishing and breading livestock, in the area called the “Monte” the highest part of Bayahibe, the inhabitants cultivate vegetables, rich from the natural springs, for their daily necessities. There was no electricity and to reach the city of Romana you had to walk path 17 Km long during which you had to look at the Rio Chavon. The cows, pigs and goats were left on the splendid and close island of Saona to graze widely, in fact this island is rich of vegetation. In the period when the livestock gets gathered to be sold at the market, the animals swim 2 Km of water which divided Saona from Punta la Palma. 36 years ago the first tourist investors arrived who radically changed the inhabitants lives of this Caribbean village, different coloured wooden houses, earthen roads, at night they sit outside the front door talking pleasantly in the coolness of the tropical breeze.The tourism outside the villages, does not met any provision and shopping problems, you can find good quality meat, fish and vegetables. The town of reference is La Romana distant around 20 Km.
